K-30 veranda – summer’s ephemeral fata morgana and an embassy of the future dance club.
The project emerged under pressure of considerable temporal, spatial and financial limitations. To counter those we proposed a simple but impressive cantilevered canopy of steel trusses, which floats, as if unsupported, above the dance floor and intricately disperse its lights into the outside world.
Painted shipping containers, arranged in a sidestep pattern, form a deep service wall and provides a focused perspective framing of the stage. The stage portal itself is a kind of house within a house, while the existing parapet of the loading pit turns into a seating deck.
Together the canopy and the wall remind us of a jewellery casket, within whose confined interior we managed to find enough space for an entry area, two bars, a playroom and even a small rock garden.
